What patients say about their experience with Mackenzie
Get to know your provider Mackenzie
We sat down with Mackenzie Swanson, NP-C, to talk about her work in Grand Rapids, Michigan, her recent journey becoming a Menopause Society Certified Provider, and why she believes hormone therapy is one of the most game-changing advances in women’s health.
Can you tell us a little about yourself? Where do you live, and what do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I was born and raised in Grand Rapids, grew up in Ada, and now live there with my husband and our three daughters—ages 10, 8, and 4. Most of my free time is spent with my family, whether that’s up north or out by the pool in the summer. Personally, I’m a big reader—always fiction. I read constantly and listen to audiobooks, too.
How long have you been with the Center for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery and RegenCen, and what was your path before joining?
I’ve been here almost exactly four years. Before that, I worked in family medicine at West Michigan Family Medicine, an independent group, for about five years after finishing school.
Have you tried any of the regenerative treatments yourself?
Yes, I recently started hormone replacement therapy for perimenopause. I did a testosterone pellet, and I’ve really liked it. It’s definitely helped with energy, mental clarity, and libido. I haven’t tried NAD+ yet, but I probably will—it’s just hard to balance priorities with three kids.
What symptoms do you hear about most often from patients?
For both men and women, low energy is the number one concern. Women also often mention weight gain, poor sleep, and decreased libido. There’s such a wide range of symptoms, but fatigue is something I hear about across the board.
How do you see aesthetics and regenerative medicine complementing each other?
It’s been great to expand what I can offer. Many of my aesthetic patients transitioned into regenerative patients once we started those services. We spend so much time on the exterior—skin, facial balance, overall appearance—but regenerative care allows me to help patients feel just as good on the inside. It’s really strengthened my relationships with them.
Do you have a favorite patient success story?
One woman comes to mind who did hormone therapy and feminine rejuvenation. She told me she felt like she had her spark back. More energy, a better sex life, a new zest for life. It was amazing to see that kind of transformation. I’ve also had male patients on testosterone therapy who come back saying they feel like completely new people. Those are some of the most rewarding moments.
Which treatments have surprised you the most?
Hormone replacement therapy has been the biggest eye-opener. NAD+ has also impressed me; patients who stay on it consistently report feeling more energized and resilient, even during stressful times like the holidays.
What’s one thing you wish more people knew about regenerative medicine?
I wish more people knew that these treatments are safe, effective, and life-changing. In Grand Rapids, people can be a little conservative, so some are hesitant at first. But once they start, they feel so much better. I especially wish more women knew about the benefits of hormone therapy, it’s an area where women have been underserved for decades. I am a Menopause Society Certified Provider.
Where do you see hormone and regenerative medicine in 10 years?
My hope is that it becomes standard of care. That it’s not even a question—it’s just, “When are we starting?” Women in particular have been at a disservice for years, and I hope the growing body of research changes that.
What’s your favorite part about working here?
The team. The providers here are like family, we support each other inside and outside of work. It’s a great environment, and I feel really lucky to be part of it.
And just for fun—what’s your go-to coffee order?
I’m pretty simple: a nonfat vanilla latte.
