What patients say about their experience with Shauna
Get to know your provider Shauna
We sat down to talk with Shauna Stark, DNP-BC about her work as an advanced provider in Harbor Springs and Petoskey, Michigan, her enthusiasm for skin-first care, and why one regenerative treatment in particular continues to surprise her, even after years in medicine.
Where do you live, and what do you enjoy doing outside of work? Any hobbies or passions?
Outside of work, I love to travel. I am a big travel enthusiast and would happily explore the world nonstop if I could. I also have a dog and enjoy long walks together. In my quieter moments, I like to draw. I also spend time working in underserved countries, which has been incredibly meaningful for me both personally and professionally.
Do you work anywhere else besides RegenCen and CSLC?
Yes, I stay very busy. I am a graduate pathophysiology professor at the University of Michigan Flint campus. I also work at the hospital in Petoskey, where I do trauma and general surgery. My primary training was in critical care, and I have worked across many areas of hospital medicine.
Would you be open to sharing your own wellness journey? Have you tried NAD+, PRF, medical weight loss, or hormone therapy?
I love NAD+ and PRF. I have not personally tried hormone therapy or medical weight loss, but many of my patients have had great experiences with those programs. With NAD+, I have noticed more energy and motivation, especially during the long winter months. I have only been on it for about five weeks, but that is the first thing I noticed.
PRF is a definite favorite. I love it under the eyes and in joints, and I recommend it often. I think it is very underutilized in both aesthetic and regenerative medicine.
For RegenCen patients, what concerns do you hear most often?
The most common concerns are fatigue, low motivation, poor skin quality, low libido, and difficulty losing weight. Those tend to be the recurring themes I see.
What inspired your passion for regenerative medicine, aesthetics, or hormone health?
I am very focused on high quality skin care. I think many people come in wanting injectables right away, which I do love providing, but without addressing skin health first, the results can still look incomplete. I always try to start patients on a strong skin care regimen, microneedling, or other foundational treatments before jumping straight to injectables. Healthy skin changes everything.
What improvements do men most often mention after testosterone replacement therapy?
Energy is the biggest one, by far. Many men also notice significant improvement in joint aches and pains. For some, pain reduction is one of the most meaningful changes.
Can you share a favorite patient success story, anonymously?
I once treated a woman in our Petoskey office who had severe urinary incontinence after multiple pregnancies. She was embarrassed and relied on pads daily. After completing feminine rejuvenation treatments, she came back in tears, happy tears, because she could hold her bladder for two and a half hours and no longer needed pads. Seeing that level of relief and confidence return was incredibly rewarding.
Other than hormone health, what treatments have surprised you most with their results?
PRF, without question. I treat many patients who do heavy labor, construction workers with chronic knee pain, for example. Even a single round of PRF can make a meaningful difference. I have many joint patients who are genuinely satisfied with their results.
What is one thing you wish more people knew about regenerative treatments?
PRF is incredibly versatile and still not well known. It can improve quality of life in so many ways, whether for joint pain, sexual wellness, skin rejuvenation, or even as a natural alternative to filler. I love using PRF throughout the face for wrinkles and scars. It is your own product, not something synthetic, which makes many patients feel more comfortable once they understand how it works.
How do you see hormone replacement and regenerative medicine evolving over the next ten years for women?
I hope it continues to grow and gain wider acceptance. I understand why some medical professionals are hesitant, and I think strong, high quality research will be key. As the evidence base expands, I believe these therapies will become more mainstream, because the benefits we are already seeing are very real.
Just for fun, if you were not in medicine, what would you be doing?
I would absolutely be a travel agent or a private home chef. I would be very good at both.
