Get to know your provider Alicia

We sat down to talk with Alicia Gronowski, PA-C, about her work as a Hormone & Regenerative Medicine Specialist at RegenCen in Fenton, what first sent her down the rabbit hole of preventive and regenerative medicine, and the changes patients sometimes notice that go far beyond the reason they first came in.

Tell us a little about yourself. What do you enjoy outside of work?
I live in the Metro Detroit area, and I love spending time with my family and friends. I’m also obsessed with my dog, Rusty, who is a Goldendoodle. One of my favorite things to do is go up north in Michigan. I love spending time on the water, being outside, and enjoying everything Northern Michigan has to offer.

What was your medical background before joining RegenCen?
Before coming here, I worked in urgent care and primary care. I also had experience with hormone replacement therapy and peptides, so regenerative medicine was already a significant part of my background.

Have you personally tried any of the treatments you offer?
Yes! On the regenerative side, I love treatments like NAD+, BFit, and injectable therapies.

What inspired your passion for hormone health and regenerative medicine?
It really started when I was working in urgent care and primary care. I realized that so much of our overall health and longevity can be influenced by what we do long before a chronic condition becomes a problem. That sent me down a rabbit hole of learning more about preventive and regenerative approaches to medicine.

From there, I realized how big of a role hormones can play, especially in midlife. So many men and women are struggling with symptoms they think they simply have to live with, and they don’t. Seeing the difference the right treatment can make in someone’s day-to-day life is what really drew me to this field.

What are some of the most common symptoms you hear from patients?
Fatigue, brain fog, lack of motivation, and just not feeling like themselves. Sometimes patients can’t even pinpoint exactly what’s wrong or put it into words. They just know they don’t feel the way they used to.

What improvements do men commonly notice after starting testosterone replacement therapy?
Energy and mental clarity are two of the biggest ones. A lot of men are also putting significant effort into training and exercise, and they finally start noticing results from the work they’re already doing.

One of the most rewarding things is hearing from younger men who tell me they finally have the energy to go play with their kids the way they want to. Those everyday changes can have a huge impact on quality of life.

Is there a patient experience that has stayed with you?
I had a woman in her 60s who had not been sexually active with her husband for years because intimacy had become painful. After starting hormone therapy, her sex drive improved and her vaginal dryness improved. She came into the office in tears because she and her husband were able to be intimate again. Seeing what that change meant for her and her relationship really stayed with me.

Outside of hormone therapy, which treatments stand out to you most?
GLP-1 therapies. Weight loss may be what initially brings someone in, but patients sometimes describe changes that extend beyond the number on the scale. I’ve heard patients talk about feeling less inflammation, experiencing better mental clarity, having fewer alcohol cravings, and simply feeling better overall.

What do you wish more people understood about regenerative medicine?
I wish people wouldn’t base their entire perception of a treatment on something they’ve heard in the media. Context matters. The way we approach a therapy at RegenCen may be very different from how it is approached elsewhere. I encourage patients to keep an open mind, ask questions, and have a conversation with a knowledgeable provider about what may or may not be appropriate for them individually.

How do you see hormone replacement and regenerative medicine evolving for women over the next 10 years?
I hope we continue moving toward greater education and access, including more education for medical providers around hormone health. I would also love to see more progress around testosterone therapy for women because that is still a major missing piece.

We’re moving in the right direction, but there is still a lot of work to do to make informed hormone care more accessible to both women and men.

What is your favorite part about working at RegenCen?
It’s seeing the transformation in patients. People sometimes come in feeling desperate because they haven’t felt well for a long time and don’t know what to do next. Being able to listen to what they’re experiencing, find the right protocol for them, and then see them come back feeling like themselves again is the best part.
