If you’re over 40, we recommend hormone testing which we can do by a simple blood draw. Men’s testosterone starts to deplete in the 30’s and many women in their 40’s can benefit from testosterone or progesterone optimization even before menopause.

They want to lose weight generally, and are pretty open to whatever options our medical providers feel are appropriate for their individual situation. It should go without saying, but I’ll say it anyway: not everyone is a good candidate for every single weight loss technique out there. WE often have patients who are very frustrated with not being able to lose 5 or 8 lbs - sounds like a small amount of weight to a lot of us, but if you’ve been 115 pounds your whole life and suddenly you’ve hit menopause and you’re 123 and it all seems to have gone to one place, nothing fits... that’s pretty frustrating! But are they a good candidate for semaglutide? No. But they don’t care, they just want an effective solution. And that’s why we have multiple solutions.

When women approach menopause, their hormones initially just go haywire: estrogen spikes, progesterone drops, and testosterone goes to nothing. They aren’t even in menopause yet, and already gaining weight and inches around the midsection. When estrogen goes away, things can get even worse. But research shows that bioidentical hormone replacement corrects many of those metabolic problems, increasing muscle mass and calorie burn.

In our practice, we find women who maintain more youthful hormone levels have a much easier time losing weight and then keeping it off after our weight loss program. Same is true of men - if your testosterone 1/3 of what it was at 30, you just won’t have the same calorie burn or response to exercise. Men can just slowly get bigger and bigger, year after year. Testosterone replacement is proven to reduce body fat and increase muscle mass in almost everyone with low T. And, similar to women, it’s way easier to get rid of extra weight when you’re on bioidentical hormones because you do burn more calories with exercise.

As I mentioned above, hormone-related weight gain and body shape changes are a huge problem for millions of pretty diligent people who watch their food intake, exercise, etc. Whether you’re a woman moving through menopause or a guy whose testosterone is half what it was, you’re just not going to burn the same calories or have the same muscle response if you don’t replace those hormones.

In short, the Skinny Shot is just our proprietary name for a mixture of supplements geared toward mobilizing your fat stores and burning them up. It’s a strange quirk of physiology that for most of us, we have everything we need to make and store fat, but when it comes to burning it, we’re short on those supplies. The Skinny Shot boosts components that help ferry fat from storage cells to the cells to burn it; NAD is the other shot we use to boost our energy production. It’s an enzyme that drops with age, and if you don’t have enough, you can have all the fuel in the world but you won’t be able to burn it. If you’re overweight, you have plenty of stored fuel, but not enough NAD and other stuff you need to burn it efficiently. That’s why we’re all scratching our heads in our 40’s “Why am I suddenly having a hard time losing a few pounds?” It’s because you’re missing a few things.

Ozempic is one of the brand names of semaglutide, the actual drug. The first thing I’ll say is, it’s not a fad. Doctors have been quietly using that class of drugs, the GLP-1 class, for weight loss for almost 15 years now. It finally got approval for that in 2021, so it’s now having much more publicity and now it’s a frenzy. But fad - no. It’s so effective and so safe; it’s going to be around for long, long time. Until something better comes out. We use it daily. Even before we started RegenCen, we used it all the time in my primary care practice. So unlike most outfits, we have years of experience prescribing this - both in pill form and injectable.

I told you it’s not a fad! Ha ha ha, just giving you a hard time. But very seriously, some articles pretend there's an ethical dilemma, like overweight people are stealing semaglutide from diabetics who “really need it.” That’s total crap - it's approved for type II diabetics AND overweight or obese people, both have equal rights to obtain prescriptions for it. It’s not like one group is more deserving than the other, they are both massive health problems for the country. So it’s not an ethical question, it’s a supply - demand problem that will get fixed as soon as Novo gets another production line up and running or when other drugs are approved.

Yes, Mounjaro is another injectable, studies show even BETTER results than semaglutide. That will probably be a much bigger deal one it gets final approval for weight loss (it’s already approved for type II diabetes).
