When semaglutide isn’t right for you

Weight loss is personal, and treatment should reflect that.

For many patients, semaglutide is an effective option. When progress is steady and treatment feels well-tolerated, there’s every reason to continue.

But not every experience is the same.

Some patients reach a plateau. Others experience side effects that make treatment difficult to maintain. In some cases, patients simply do not feel as well as expected.

Semaglutide was the first GLP-1 drug for weight loss, and it’s still the most commonly prescribed GLP-1 our practice. We have used it successfully for many years. At the same time, we have seen that some patients respond better to tirzepatide.

What’s the difference?

Semaglutide works through one pathway involved in appetite and metabolic regulation. Tirzepatide works through two. For the some patients, that difference translate into better appetite control, fewer side effects (or none), or renewed progress after feeling stuck.
