Get to know your provider Meg

We sat down with Meg Syms, PA-C, to talk about her work as a regenerative medicine provider in East Lansing, her growing interest in PRF and hormone therapy, and what it really takes to help patients feel like themselves again.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where do you live and what do you enjoy outside of work?
I live in Rochester Hills with my family and our dog, Stella. Outside of work, I enjoy staying active. I play a lot of tennis, especially when the weather is nice, and I love trying new restaurants. Taking Stella for walks is one of my favorite ways to unwind.

Where did you work before joining RegenCen?
I previously worked in primary care. There is actually a lot of overlap with what I do now, but my role at RegenCen allows me to focus more deeply on specific areas like hormone health and regenerative medicine, which has been really rewarding.

What inspired your passion for hormone health and regenerative medicine?
A big part of it came from seeing both patients and close family members struggle during midlife, whether it was perimenopause, menopause, or just feeling off due to suboptimal hormone levels. Seeing how much hormone replacement therapy improved their quality of life was incredibly impactful. It was a complete shift, and that really shaped my interest in this field.

What are the top symptoms or concerns you hear from patients?
Many patients come in feeling frustrated that they are doing everything right but still struggling with weight. I also frequently hear about fatigue, sleep disturbances, mood changes, and brain fog. These symptoms are more common than people think, and often they are connected.

What advice would you give someone who feels “off” but doesn’t know where to begin?
Start with a conversation. A consultation allows us to take a deeper look at your history, your symptoms, and your goals. From there, we can identify what might be going on and create a plan that is specific to you.

What are the top improvements men mention after testosterone replacement?
The biggest changes tend to be in energy and motivation. Many men do not realize how much declining testosterone has been affecting their day-to-day life until their levels are optimized. Once they are, the difference can be significant.

Other than hormone health, what treatments have surprised you most with their results?
PRF treatments for joints and hair have been especially impressive. Patients see meaningful improvements, whether it is reduced pain or new hair growth. They also appreciate that we are using their body’s own growth factors to support healing and regeneration.

What’s one thing you wish more people knew about regenerative treatments or a specific therapy?
For women especially, there are safe and effective hormone therapy options available. When started at the right time, these therapies can provide not only symptom relief but also long-term protective health benefits.

How do you see hormone replacement and regenerative medicine evolving over the next 10 years for women?
I think we will continue to see more awareness and more open conversations around hormone health and regenerative medicine. As education improves, more women will understand the long-term benefits of these treatments. It is an exciting time, especially with recent changes in how hormone therapy is viewed by the FDA.

What’s your favorite part about working at RegenCen—or what attracted you to join the team?
The environment. It is a very collaborative and supportive team. Everyone is committed to continuing education and staying current with the latest medical practices. That shared mindset makes a big difference, not just for us as providers but for our patients as well.

Just for fun, what is your go-to coffee order?
There’s a local coffee shop I love, Birmingham Roast in downtown Birmingham, where I order an espresso drink made with almond and coconut milk. It tastes like an Almond Joy and it’s so good.
